In Scoil Iosef Naofa Literacy Lift Off is a whole-class initiative which is implemented in Senior Infants & 1st Class. It is aimed at increasing competency in oral language, reading and writing. Three members of the S.E.N. team in collaboration with the class teacher work in the classroom daily from Monday to Thursday for blocks of 6-8 weeks in 10 minute rotating sessions on a range of literacy activities.
These activities include:
● Re-reading familiar books to build fluency and confidence.
● Being introduced to and attempting to read a new book.
● Composing and recording their own messages.
● Reconstructing the story which has been cut-up.
● Working on how words work so that they can make a fast visual analysis of their reading.
