6th Class Work

Week 13  – June 22nd – 26th

Thanks to everyone who has sent me photos in their grad jumpers and also sent in their poems. I will be putting them up on Facebook this week so make sure to send yours in soon if you haven’t done it already. I will need the awards sheet filled in and sent to me by Wednesday at the latest.

Week 12  – June 15th – 19th

Congratulations to everyone for graduating 6th class. I was fully sure some of you were going to have to redo all of Primary School but thankfully you managed to scrape through and into Secondary School. We still have 2 more weeks of school left so try to do a little bit of work. At this time of year in school we would be focusing on revision and projects.

  • Rules – don’t vote for yourself
  • You have to put in the names of all 25 class members. There are 30 awards so you can put in 5 names twice.
  1.  Maths – Chapter 32 – pg. 181 – 184 (A Long Look Back). This covers everything you need to know in 6th class. Give it a go and I will put up the answers here next week.
  2. English – Corville Poem – some people have already sent this in to me. I would like everyone to give it a go. I will make one ‘Super Poem’ at the end of the year from all of your poems.
  3. Projects – there are already a number of projects you can be doing. As always take a photo of it when you are finished and send it in to me.

New Project – Design a Theme Park – this is a big project that involves many subjects like maths, art, english, engineering, IT etc. You have to create a plan for a theme park as well as creating a brochure, a letter, costings, and images of your carnival rides. Pick a theme for your theme park e.g. ice world, aquatopia, the rainforest, Marvel universe etc. Link the ride names to that theme. All the instructions are in the pack > Theme Park Project Pack

Week 10 – June 2nd – 5th

Week 9 – May 25th – 29th

  2. Maths – new chapter – Chapter 18 – Decimals – all chapter to be done this week. The main thing you learn in this chapter is multiplying decimals. I have put some examples of how to do that > here
  3. Spellwell – Week 31 – all exercises from A to F to be done. Plus learn spellings. Parents should test the children on Friday.
  4. English -we are focusing on essay writing. You have 3 essays to write. With each essay make sure to describe in details the setting and characters. Use the 5ws in the opening paragraph. Use adjective, adjective noun. Finally, use dialogue!
    1. A family vacation in the woods.
    2. A dog with magic powers
    3. A summer camp for kids of superheroes.

  7. At the end of the year we start doing a number of big prjects in 6th class. Usually these are done in teams of 4. There is quite a bit of work involved and quite a bit of printing. I will give you 2 weeks per project.

    2. Map 2 – map of the World – label the continents.
  10. History – Small World Book – do the chapter on The Home Rule Crisis – Read plus answer all questions

Week 6 – May 5th – 8th

  8. Science – Covid 19 project. Covid 19 is a Corona Virus. This involves biology. Research all you can about what viruses are and put together a project based on Covide 19. Draw pictures / maps, print off information and photos, create headings etc. I want two A3 size pieces of paper stuck together for this. Take a photo when you are finished to be placed on our Facebook page.
  9. Geography – Small World Book – do the chapter on People and the Natural Environment. Read plus answer all questions.
  10. History – Small World Book – do the chapter on The Land War – Read plus answer all questions

Week 5 – April 27th – May 1st

  1. Mental Maths – pg. 64 + 65 – Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur + Friday Test Week 31 pg. 97
  2. Maths – new chapter – Chapter 25 – 3D Shapes – all chapter to be done this week.
  3. Spellwell – Week 27 – all exercises from A to F to be done. Plus learn spellings. Parents should test the children on Friday.
  4. English – Novel – finish reading the entire novel (if not finished already). Written activity (1) take 1 character from the story and write a 3 page essay about a different adventure that character had. Maybe at some stage the character got lost, maybe it takes place after the novel is finished. Include dialogue in your new story and lots of descriptive details. (2) Recount writing – Pick any time/event and any character and recount the story from their point of view. 2 pages. Use recount rules – past tense, use I/We, sequential order, 5 Ws to start.
  5. Gaeilgewrite a story – Ar Maidin – past tense – Dhúisigh mé ar a naoi a chlog…
  6. Gaeilge – Bun go Barr – 15. Déanach don Scoil (Late for school). Re-read the story pg. 92 & 93 (use your Irish dictionaries or Google translate to aid understanding). Do activities D, E and J

  9. Geography – Small World Book – do the chapter on Physical Geography-Africa,Australia and Europe. Read plus answer all questions.
  10. History – Project WW1 – like the geography project last week, use an A2 size paper. Use information from last week’s WW1 chapter plus research new info. Draw pictures / maps, print off information and photos, create headings etc. Give a good explanation for what started the war, who was involved and how it finished.

Week 4 – April 20th – 24th

  2. Maths -new chapter – Chapter 22 – Weight – all chapter to be done this week.
  3. Spellwell – Week 26 – all exercises from A to F to be done. Plus learn spellings. Parents should test the children on Friday.
  4. English – Reading – spend this week reading all your novel. There will be activities to do on this next week.
  5. Gaeilge – grammar work – rewrite the following paragraph in the present tense (ann, íonn) Bun go Barr, Chap. 15 page 92 final paragraph.
  6. Gaeilge – Bun go Barr – 15. Déanach don Scoil (Late for school). Re-read the story pg. 86 & 87 (use your Irish dictionaries or Google translate to aid understanding). Do activities B + C
  7. Ceart Litriú – pg 49. Learn the new words. Do all activities on pages 50 & 51. Parents should test the children on Friday
  8. Science – Small World Science Book – do the chapter on animals + all questions.
  9. Geography – Project – pick any country in the world, research it, draw pictures / maps, print off information and photos, create headings etc. Use an A2 size paper or just stick to A3 size sheets of paper together. Plan it properly. Neat presentation is important.
  10. History – WW1 – do this chapter in your Small World Books and answer all thequestions.

Week 3 – March 30th – April 3rd

  2. Maths – revision sheets – this week we are revising fractions
    1. Classify Angles
    2. Missing Angle
    3. Converting fractions decimals and percentages
    4. Finding percentages
    5. Converting fractions to decimals
    6. Plus learn x12 tables.
  3. Spellwell – Week 25 – all exercises from A to F to be done. Plus learn spellings. Parents should test the children on Friday.
  4. English – Read Novel Chapters 10 + 11. Write a summary of each chapter. Divide a page into 4 boxes. Draw the 4 most important images from those chapters.
  5. English – Cloze Procedure – download here
  6. English – Write a diary for the week. Include what happened each day and what your plans are for the next day. Add how you are feeling about things etc. 1 page per day.
  7. Gaeilge – grammar work – write out sentences in the correct tense using these verbs. Watch out for irregular verbs.
    1. Aimsir Caite (past – add h or d’) – verbs = bris, rith, cas, cuidigh, imir, feic
    2. Aimsir Fháistineach (future – faidh, óidh) = dún, cuir, pioc, bí, bailigh, inis

  10. Science – Biology – The Earthworm – Research all about the earthworm in books or on the Internet. Write down 10 facts about the earthworm. Practice drawing and labeling the following Worm Anatomy images in your copy.
  11. Geography – Ireland – Draw a large map of Ireland (use tracing paper or do it free hand or if needs be – print this out). Draw in all the counties. 5 major rivers. 5 major Mountain ranges. 5 major cities. 5 major lakes.
  12. History – WW1 – research the First World War online and in books. Write about
    1. how it started
    2. what happened during it
    3. why it stopped.

Week 2 – March 23rd – 27th
